Apollo Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed Hire

Hire the Apollo Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed, a specialist floor-level profiling bed designed to dramatically reduce the risk of injury from falls while delivering full electric profiling functionality for patients and carers alike.

With a platform that lowers to just 7cm from the floor, this bed is a great choice for people at high risk of rolling or falling out of bed, and it suits a wide range of care settings including care homes, hospitals, and home care environments.

What is an Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed?

An ultra low profiling floor bed is a specialist care bed that combines two functions in one frame. It offers the near-floor positioning of a traditional floor bed alongside the electric adjustment of a standard profiling bed, so carers get full clinical control without giving up the safety benefits of a low sleeping surface.

This dual function is what sets a floor bed apart from a standard profiling bed, which typically sits much higher and offers no dedicated floor setting.

The Apollo Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed is built for situations where floor height and safe repositioning both matter. The section below covers exactly how low it goes and why that matters.

Ultra Low Floor Height for Maximum Fall Prevention

Lowering a patient’s sleeping surface close to the ground is one of the most effective ways to reduce the severity of injury if they roll or fall from the bed. This makes floor-level positioning especially valuable for patients living with dementia, those at high risk of falls, and individuals in palliative or end-of-life care, where even a short fall can cause serious harm.

The Apollo Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed lowers to just 7cm from the floor, putting it among the lowest platforms available on hire. When raised for care tasks, the bed reaches a maximum height of 67cm, giving carers a comfortable working height without compromising patient safety.

The total height adjustment range of 60cm means the bed adapts quickly to the needs of both the user and the carer throughout the day.

Full Electric Profiling Functions for User Comfort

Despite its floor-level capabilities, the Apollo Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed does not compromise on profiling functionality. The bed features electrically operated backrest, knee break, height, and tilt adjustments, all controlled through a simple and intuitive hand control. The backrest adjusts to an angle of up to 70 degrees, and the leg support reaches 35 degrees, allowing a wide range of comfortable positions for resting, sleeping, and personal care.

The anti-Trendelenburg tilt function provides additional positioning support where clinically required. Because all functions are electric, both patients and carers can make adjustments easily and safely without any manual effort. The bed also comfortably supports users up to 27.5 stone (175kg), making it a reliable choice across a broad range of care needs.

Auto-Regression and Auto-Contour for Safer Profiling

Two of the most important clinical features on this ultra low profiling floor bed are the auto-regression function and the auto-contour function. The auto-regression function synchronises the backrest and knee break movements during profiling, which reduces friction and shear forces on the sacral area, helping to protect skin integrity and lower the risk of pressure injuries during repositioning.

The auto-contour function raises the backrest and leg support simultaneously, allowing for effortless positioning that prevents the patient from sliding down the bed. Together, these two features make the Apollo Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed a strong choice for patients with complex care needs or skin vulnerability.

Built-In Safety Features That Protect Users and Carers

Safety is central to the design of the Apollo Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed. A dedicated ground button on the hand control lowers the bed to the optimum 7cm floor position, while a safety stop mechanism automatically halts the lowering process at a set point to help prevent the entrapment of feet or limbs beneath the bed frame.

This keeps both the user and carers safe during height adjustments. The bed also features individually lockable castors, which enhance stability during use and allow the bed to be moved and re-positioned safely when needed.

Optional Accessories for Enhanced Care

The Apollo Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed can be further adapted to meet individual care needs through a range of optional accessories available on request. These include side rails with mesh bumper for additional fall protection and a length extension kit for the floor bed including side rails. If you are unsure which accessories are most suitable for your situation, our team is always happy to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an ultra-low profiling floor bed used for?

An ultra-low profiling floor bed is designed to reduce the risk of injury from falls by lowering the sleeping surface almost to floor level. This makes it a common choice for people at risk of rolling or falling out of bed, including those with dementia, complex care needs, or reduced mobility. The Apollo Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed combines this low floor position with full profiling functions, so carers can still adjust the backrest and leg support for comfort and pressure care.

How low does the bed go?

The Apollo Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed lowers to 7cm from the floor at the touch of a dedicated ground button on the hand control. This is one of the lowest floor positions available on a profiling bed, designed for users who need maximum protection against fall injuries.

Why does a low floor position matter for safety?

Lowering the bed close to the floor shortens the distance a person falls if they roll out of bed, which reduces the chance of serious injury. This makes an ultra-low floor bed particularly suitable for home care, hospital discharge, and dementia care, where fall risk is a key concern.

What is auto-regression on a profiling bed?

Auto-regression is a function that synchronises the movement of the backrest and knee break while the bed is being profiled. On the Apollo Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed, this coordinated movement reduces friction and shear forces around the sacral area during repositioning. In practical terms, that means less dragging of the skin against the mattress, which helps protect skin integrity and lower the risk of pressure injuries for patients with vulnerable skin.

What does auto-contour do on this bed?

Auto-contour raises the backrest and leg support at the same time, so the patient is supported into a comfortable seated position without sliding down the bed. This is especially helpful for anyone who spends long periods sitting up in bed, as it reduces the need for repeated repositioning by carers. Together with auto-regression, this function is one of the reasons the Apollo Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed suits patients with complex care needs.

Can the bed trap feet or limbs while it's lowering?

The bed includes a safety stop mechanism that automatically halts the lowering process at a set point, helping to prevent feet or limbs becoming trapped beneath the frame. This protects both the user and any carers nearby and works alongside the ground button that lowers the bed to its 7cm floor position.

Can side rails be added for extra fall protection?

Yes, side rails with a mesh bumper are available as an optional accessory for the Apollo Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed. These add an extra layer of fall protection alongside the low floor position, and our team can talk through whether they're the right fit for your situation.

Is there an option to make the bed longer?

A length extension kit is available on request, which extends the floor bed and includes matching side rails. This is a helpful option for taller users who need extra length without losing the safety features of the standard setup.

Can I hire this bed for a hospital discharge?

Yes, the Apollo Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed is available to hire ahead of a hospital discharge date, so it's ready and waiting at home. Many families arrange this in advance to remove one less thing to worry about during a stressful transition.

Can I hire this bed for long-term use?

Yes, the bed is also available for longer-term care arrangements, not just short-term hospital discharge needs. Hire periods can be adjusted to suit your situation, whether that's a few weeks or an ongoing arrangement.

How quickly can the bed be delivered and set up?

Mobility Hire offers fast nationwide delivery with full setup included, so the bed is ready to use as soon as it arrives. This is designed to take the pressure off, whether you're arranging equipment for home care, a hospital discharge, or a longer-term care need.

How do I arrange a hire?

You can arrange your hire of the Apollo Ultra Low Profiling Floor Bed by calling our friendly team on 0800 111 6234. They can talk through your care situation, confirm accessories such as side rails or the extension kit, and get delivery booked in.
