Fully Comprehensive Mobility Scooter & Powerchair Insurance Cover

Horizon Mobility Ltd [HM] provide users a comprehensive mobility insurance policy on all their POWERED hire products. The hirer will be a named user on our fleet policy, and the costs for which form part of the hire price.  This policy is provided by Surewise and both the policy wording and the IPID can be found here – Insurance Product Information Document

The key benefits of this policy are:

Loss or damage to the scooter caused by accidental damage, fire, flood, malicious damage, vandalism, storm or theft up to the value of the device.

Public Liability cover of up to £2M for accidental injury to third parties or accidental damage to property arising out of use of the mobility scooter

Personal accident cover of up to £3000, if you are accidentally injured in direct connection with the mobility scooter

Some key areas that are not covered are:

Theft of the mobility scooter or personal effects without evidence of forcible entry

Loss or damage if the mobility scooter is left in the open for more than one hour

It’s important to understand that the scooter or powerchair must be locked to an immovable object and covered out of sight if it is being left outdoors for longer than an hour.  This is not necessary for periods of less than an hour, for example going shopping, but you must take the ignition keys with you.

The user is subject to a £150 excess charge which will be returned within 14 days of the safe return of the goods hired, less any charges for damage caused to the product. If the damage or loss exceeds this sum and is not settled by a valid insurance claim then the balance will also be payable. The user/hirer may opt to pay an EXCESS WAIVER FEE, thus mitigating this liability to the Excess Waiver fee only, subject to the claim being for accidental damage in a single incident. You may choose to pay a non-refundable fee of £30 on a power product, which will settle any excess on us being able to make a successful insurance claim on our policy.

Please note: upholstery damage and/or small scratches will be chargeable as these are not covered on the insurance. This also applies if you have paid for the excess waiver fee, as this only applies to a successful insurance claim.

PLEASE NOTE: If a claim is made to the insurance company which they refuse to meet, then you will still be responsible for the costs of any damage, less the excess charge where the excess waiver fee has been taken out.
