Frequently Asked Questions
Is an automatic turning mattress worth buying for long-term pressure care?
For people who require frequent repositioning, an automatic turning mattress can provide significant benefits over a standard pressure care mattress. The Wellell Optima Turn Lateral Rotation Mattress combines alternating pressure therapy with automated lateral turning to help reduce prolonged pressure, improve comfort and make ongoing care more efficient for caregivers.
Who is the Wellell Optima Turn Lateral Rotation Mattress designed for?
The Wellell Optima Turn Lateral Rotation Mattress is designed for people with very limited mobility who are at high or very high risk of developing pressure injuries. It is particularly well suited to users who require regular repositioning as part of their care plan, whether at home, in a care home or within a hospital environment.
Can an automatic turning mattress reduce manual handling for carers?
Yes. The Wellell Optima Turn Lateral Rotation Mattress automatically assists with repositioning through adjustable turning cycles of 10°, 20° and 30°. While carers should always follow the individual's care plan, the automated turning function can help reduce the physical demands of routine repositioning and support safer daily care.
How do I know if I need a lateral rotation mattress instead of a standard dynamic mattress?
If the user requires frequent repositioning due to limited mobility or an increased risk of pressure injuries, a lateral rotation mattress may provide additional benefits. The Wellell Optima Turn Lateral Rotation Mattress combines alternating pressure therapy with automated turning, offering enhanced pressure redistribution compared with a standard dynamic mattress alone.
Why does the Wellell Optima Turn offer three different turning angles?
Different users require different levels of support during repositioning. The Wellell Optima Turn Lateral Rotation Mattress allows carers to choose between 10°, 20° and 30° turning angles, helping tailor therapy to individual comfort, clinical needs and care objectives.
Why is TPU material better than traditional PVC for a pressure care mattress?
TPU is widely recognised for its durability, flexibility and ease of cleaning. The Wellell Optima Turn Lateral Rotation Mattress uses TPU material that resists cuts, punctures and abrasions while supporting effective infection control through simple cleaning and disinfection. This makes it well suited to demanding care environments and long-term use.
What safety features should I look for when buying a turning mattress?
When choosing a turning mattress, look for features that help keep the user secure during repositioning while making transfers easier. The Wellell Optima Turn Lateral Rotation Mattress includes padded side bolsters for additional stability, heel relief to help protect vulnerable areas and a deflation function that assists with safe transfers.
How does the Wellell Optima Turn help improve patient comfort?
The Wellell Optima Turn Lateral Rotation Mattress combines alternating air cell therapy with automated lateral turning to reduce prolonged pressure on the same areas of the body. Its customisable therapy settings allow carers to adjust the mattress to suit individual needs, helping improve comfort throughout the day and night.
What makes the Wellell Optima Turn different from other turning mattresses?
The Wellell Optima Turn Lateral Rotation Mattress combines automated lateral turning, alternating pressure therapy, lightweight TPU construction, adjustable turning angles and integrated safety features within one system. This combination helps improve patient comfort while supporting caregivers with safer and more efficient pressure care.
